Hosting Controller has extensive hosting plan facilities, allowing you to create customer-specific plans for key clients that offer specific resources and options for a particular price;  or create general plan accessible to all customers. You have total control over the price and discounts that you offer, and how much of any resource is provided.

Few concepts are necessary to understand the working of plan manager.

• Plan: A plan is a special package that offers specific resources to the buyer.

• Resource: A resource is any item that is offered as part of a hosting plan and possibly is chargeable. e.g. Mail Boxes.

• Plan Instance: A sold plan is called plan instance. One customer can have one or more plan instances.

How does it work: The plan manager is designed in such a way that it fits in the business model of almost every hosting company. The concept of plan manager is based on classic quota system where certain quantity (called unit now) of offered features (called resource now) was assigned to each client and the client was restricted to usage within assigned quantity. The plan manager works in similar fashion.

What is plan made up of: Each plan is made up of following three components

• Resource(s): There may be one or more resources in a plan. e.g. SQL database, SSL certificate, Mailboxes etc.

• Quantity: The amount of resource in plan. e.g. 25 Mailboxes, 2 SQL databases.

• Price: The price is not counted against individual resource in plan; instead the price is commulative cost of all the resources in a plan.

The quantity of resources in plan decides the ability of customer to utilize that resource.

This is important to note here that total quantity of a resource is sum of quantity of that resource in all the purchased plans. Let's take an example here.

Customer ABC:

              ---------- Purchased Plan A : 10 Websites (resource)
              ---------- Purchased Plan B : 50 Website, 5 MS SQL Database (resource)

Total website for customer ABC  : 10+50 = 60 websites
Total database for customer ABC: 5 database

What will happen when a resource is exhausted in purchased plan: When a resource is exhausted in purchased plan, the customer is presented with two options.

1. Purchase only exhausted resource from his host, if offered. Plan containing only one resource is called 'Resource Plan'.

2. Purchase the same plan again, if resource plan is not offered.

Customer can purchase plan any time from Plan Manager->List Host Plans.

Are my customers allowed to switch plans: Yes, plan manager allows plan switching. Resellers can not switch their purchased plans, only webadmin plans can be switched. When a webadmin wants to switch his plan, a support ticket is supposed to be issued to reseller and the reseller then switches the customer plan.
